URBAN: oppidan/ metropolitan/ municipal.
BODIES: individual/ substance/ solidarity/ corpse/ relics. Urbanbodies comes to Greenwich. The Greenwich Picture House is the venue for this new exhibition which brings together contemporary artists using a wide range of medias and subjects with the common aim to explore the use of light. Urbanbodies investigates the way we look at art, it pushes the gallery walls out onto the street. Walk past the front windows of the Picture House and stop for a short time to peer inside at the art that breaks the boundaries of audience, participation and observation. The venue transports the notion of sharing a space allowing the artist to communicate on a personal level directly to the passing audience. The viewer is drawn in, compelled to look through the window at the virtuosity that questions our notions of social order. Six artists present a series of shows transforming the window space respectively. They will investigate the luminosity of an artificial light source, which combined with references to the urban environment transforms the space with radiant energy stimulating the viewer’s visual perception. Social factors are investigated within the parameters of personal history, stories, environment, gender, nature, and current affairs. Individually artists have questioned our perceptions of the cultural agendas that confine our right of impartiality. The work is observed through the window only encouraging the collective viewer from a diverse population. Open to view 24 hours a day 7 days a week no one is excluded from the experience of Urbanbodies. Latest Review Links: - Flavourpill |
